Here are some free activities you can do across the motu. Whether you\u2019ll be at home or away, there is something for the whole wh\u0101nau!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wherever you are across the motu:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Enjoy a BBQ at your whare or at one of the many public BBQ spots. You can find these near popular beaches and parks.<\/li>\n<li>Take a h\u012bkoi (walk) around a town or city near you and view the street art, there are so many great ones around the motu!<\/li>\n<li>Museums \u2013 there are some awesome free museums and historic buildings in many New Zealand towns, have a google for what\u2019s near you.<\/li>\n<li>Browse the shelves of your local library, then find a cozy spot to read and relax.<\/li>\n<li>Visit your local swimming hole to cool off. Whether this is a beach, river, or paddling pool, remember to always supervise your tamariki. Check out <a href=\"http:\/\/www.safeswim.org.nz\/\">safeswim.org.nz\/<\/a> to find information on water quality and swimming conditions at your favourite spots.<\/li>\n<li>Explore your regional and local parks. Most councils will have a website, so have a google and see what\u2019s near you. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alltrails.com\/\">AllTrails<\/a> is a good website for finding walks for all abilities.<\/li>\n<li>Enjoy local buskers or performances.<\/li>\n<li>Arts and crafts with leftover Christmas paper, cardboard, and bits around the house.<\/li>\n<li>Pitch a tent in the backyard. This can be a fun way to have a holiday without the cost.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you\u2019re travelling the motu check out these epic free activities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Watch two oceans meet at <strong>Cape Reinga<\/strong> \u2013 Watch the Tasman Sea meeting the Pacific Ocean at 165 meters above sea level.<\/li>\n<li>Explore <strong>Ambury Regional Park<\/strong> &#8211; Located on the shore of Manukau Harbour this sprawling park is the perfect place to spend a day filled with fun, sun, and fresh air. It\u2019s a working farm with pigs, goats, chickens, sheep, cows, and peacocks!<\/li>\n<li>Climb <strong>Mount Maunganui<\/strong> \u2013 From the top of this extinct volcano you will enjoy a 360-degree views which span the entire length of the Bay of Plenty. Afterwards, take a dip in the sea and relax on the white sand beach at Mount Maunganui\u2019s Main Beach.<\/li>\n<li>Hot Pools at <strong>Hot Water Beach<\/strong> &#8211; The water at Hot Water Beach in The Coromandel is like a bath. Natural thermal springs run under the sand between the high- and low-tide mark, and you can dig yourself a hot pool.<\/li>\n<li>Enjoy the <strong>Rere Rockslide<\/strong> &#8211; Just outside the iconic surf town of T\u016branga-nui-a-Kiwa Gisborne, Rere Rockslide is New Zealand\u2019s first waterslide. Carved over thousands of years it\u2019s become a stunning natural waterpark.<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u014chinemutu M\u0101ori Village<\/strong> &#8211; Connect with the culture, people, history, and landscape that have made Rotorua-nui-a-Kahu Matam\u014dmoe the incredible place it is today. \u014chinemutu Village was settled by the Ng\u0101ti Whakaue iwi .<\/li>\n<li>Visit <strong>Te Papa Tongarewa<\/strong> \u2013 Situated in the Capital, this museum has something for everyone, from precious M\u0101ori and Pacific treasures to the colossal squid and the national art collection.<\/li>\n<li>Tour <strong>Pics Peanut Butter Factory<\/strong> \u2013 Visit the home of all things Pic\u2019s Peanut Butter in Whakat\u016b Nelson. The tours are a delight for the senses; see it being made, and smell the peanuts being freshly roasted!<\/li>\n<li>Walk between the rugged land of ice and rock on the <strong>Hooker Valley Track<\/strong> at Aoraki &#8211; Along the way you will cross swingbridges and encounter icebergs, glaciers and majestic mountains that will have you reaching for your camera at every turn.<\/li>\n<li>Visit the steepest street in the world! At a slope of more than 1:5, <strong>\u014ctepoti Dunedin<\/strong> has the steepest street in the world. Walk the 350m to the top and see where the Jaffa race takes place.<\/li>\n<li>Pop into <strong>Wanaka\u2019s Blue Pools<\/strong> &#8211; A short walk from the Haast Highway, in Mount Aspiring National Park, are the Blue Pools with some of the bluest water the world has to offer, it\u2019s so clear you can often see New Zealand\u2019s famous brown and rainbow trout migrating.<\/li>\n<li>Chase <strong>Fiordland\u2019s Waterfalls<\/strong> &#8211; Mountains and waterfalls tumble hundreds of meters into massive fiords here &#8211; hence the name Fiordland.
