Willie Todd

Willie Todd left New Zealand in 2010 and travelled a lot before finally settling in Australia. One of his key goals was to buy his first home over there but he was not sure if - or how - his Whai Rawa account could help.

Willie’s mum Leonie joined her boys up to Whai Rawa when she first heard about the scheme and has contributed to their accounts every year. Willie and his brother Simon have been in Whai Rawa since its inception and have managed to accumulate a decent balance thanks to Distributions and Matched Savings every year adding to their growing account.

Willie left New Zealand in 2010 and travelled a lot before finally settling in Australia. One of his key goals was to buy his first home over there but he was not sure if – or how – his Whai Rawa account could help. He got in touch with the tīma and they were happy to inform him that he could withdraw his funds to help buy his first whare, no matter where he lived in the world. Willie admitted “I was nervous that I wouldn’t be able to withdraw for my first home because I live outside of NZ, but it was awesome to find out that it wasn’t an issue”. He commented that “the main highlight was how easy and fast the process was!” In no time he was doing the paperwork to secure his first home on the Gold Coast with partner Chanel.

Willie is happy to be a founding member of Whai Rawa, continuing to keep in touch with whānau while overseas. “It’s a real advantage to be able to keep contributing to my future and stay connected to my iwi abroad”, he said.

He mihi Willie and Chanel on your stunning new whare!
