Leikyn Raihania-Tonga

Leikyn played in the Maori Basketball Nationals held in Rotorua on 23rd-25th January 2023. Representing Ngati Kahungunu ki Ahuriri U13 Tama. We currently reside in Tāmaki for mahi so having the opportunity to connect and represent in these kaupapa Oranga are crucial for our tamariki to be able to participate and we thank you for the grant. Ka pai Leikyn!

Adam Wood

Adam was selected to play in the national under 17’s team for his hometown of Wellington (Pōneke). The tournament was a huge success with the Wellington under 17’s coming in a commendable second place, and allowed Adam to meet other cricketers from around Aotearoa. Tino pai tō mahi!

Mason Tuhuru

Mason had an amazing opportunity and experience attending the Regional Basketball Tournament in Ashburton with his team North Canterbury Black, taking out a few wins in a tough competition!

Kaiarahi Brooking-Haapu

Kaiarahi was selected to compete for Horouta Waka Hoe Waka Ama Club at the IVF Worlds Waka Ama Sprints Championships held at Lake Dorney, London, Great Britain. Ka mau te wehi!

Renata Pereka-Piwari

Renata was invited to participate in the U15 Development Sox Softball camp, alongside 48 other young softballers. From this camp he has recently been named in the U15 NZ Development Sox Softball team, confirmed to compete in September 2022, in the Queensland U16 State Championships!

Jalen Forgie

Jalen took part in the National Get 2 Go event - 5 days of mental and physical challenges to push, learn and grow from. Jalen and his team won the regional event and placed an impressive 8th in Aotearoa!

Keri Knight

Keri has been part of the year-long Te Waka Ama Level 4 course, thoroughly enjoying it and learning a lot about herself. Te Putia Manaaki Sports Grant was put towards the Hoe Tonga Regional event and the 2022 waka ama nationals.

Kate Bennie

Kate attended the NZ Age Group Championships in Wellington and made the finals for 50 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle & 200 Back. These finals comfortably put her in the top 10 of her age group (15) in NZ!

Gray Whānau

The Gray whānau competed at the Māori National Basketball tournament. Te Naera's team came away as the under 9 tama champions, and parents Raureka and Tuhawaiki came away with a silver medal for their Mixed Mātua team!

Renata Pereka – Piwari

Renata played for the U12 Super City Spartans baseball team alongside 12 other baseballers from around NZ. They competed in the Gold Coast Summer Classic Tournament placing 4th overall. Renata also received a personal invite from the Aussie Dolphins Baseball team to join them on their USA tour later this year!

Tianara Himona-Henare-Tauteka

Tianara Himona-Henare-Tauteka competed at the 2020 Koru basketball tour in Albury Wodonga playing for the NZ U14 Weka team.

Kate Bennie

Kate Bennie competed in the NZ Short Course Swimming Championships back in September 2019 and is on track to compete at a further three National events this year.

Daniella Hall

Daniella Hall played in the North Harbour U/13 Girls Representative Hockey Team. Daniella had a very successful Representative hockey year. She was Co-Captain of the Rep team, and has been nominated as a finalist for MVP at the North Harbour Awards.

Katarina Cox-Winiata

Katarina represented her team playing at the New Zealand Secondary School Netball Championship and her team was one of the final 8 teams.

Ihaia Cox-Winiata

Ihaia played at the Secondary School National Basketball Championships and his team was one of the final 8 teams.

Kyla Lynch-Brown

Kyla Lynch-Brown represented New Zealand in the Green Mixed U16 Touch Team, which toured Australia in September and were undefeated. Kyla was also awarded the Touch NZ Rising Star award for her team.

Te Aomatarahi Paranihi

Te Aomatarahi competed for the Hukanui Under 10s team at the New Zealand Māori Rugby League Tamariki Tournament 2019 held in Whakatane.

Turama Paranihi

Turama competed at the New Zealand Māori Rugby League Tamariki Tournament for the Waikato Under 12s.

Cayden Gibbs

Cayden Gibbs attended the Tae-Kwon-Do national champs in Wellington 2019. Cayden won gold in his fighting division.

Madisyn Gibbs

Madisyn Gibbs attended the Tae-Kwon-Do national championships in Wellington 2019. Madisyn won a gold in poomse and a gold and silver in her fight divisions.

Jackson Herrick

Jackson Herrick represented Southland at the NZ Short Course Swimming Championships. On the first day Jackson won a Bronze Medal in the 15-Year-Old Boys 800m Freestyle. (Jackson is on the right.)

Tom Dyer

Tom Dyer’s team, Roslyn Wakari AFC Stallions, won the plate final in the New Zealand South Island tournament held in Dunedin for football.

Noah Hollamby

Noah Hollamby got 5th in the road race (first from the South Island) and 9th in the points race at the National Schools Racing Championships in the under-14 grade. Noah is in the black, riding the red bike with the white helmet.

Amy Begg

Amy Begg played for the Major Sox Under 23 New Zealand softball team and competed in the Canada Cup tournament in Canada. They finished 5th overall with our last game being a big battle against Chinese Taipei who are 6th in the world.

Emma McKay

Emma travelled to Townsville with the Athletics NZ team to compete at the Oceania Area Championships in June. Emma came 4th in both her events - the long jump and the triple jump!

Anna McCaw

Anna competed in the under 16's girl’s youth futsal championships held in Wellington in the school holidays. After being undefeated for every game, her team representing Central Futsal took out first place in the round robin tournament. Anna is one of the goal keepers in orange (on the left).

Summer and Ella

Summer and Ella have recently returned from Tauranga having played with their U15 Tasman Basketball Team at the U15 Nationals. The team had an outstanding tournament, which saw them place 7th out of 20 Teams - the best result a Tasman Team has come away with.

James Matthews and Flynn Warren

James and Flynn represented New Zealand in baseball at the Cal Ripken u13 World Series in Branson, Missouri. Of the first four games, they won two games against Mid Atlantic and Canada and lost two to Mexico and Dominican Republic.

Jason Keno

Jason competed for the New Zealand Men's 45 Division Touch team at the largest ever Touch World Cup in Malaysia, April-May 2019. They went through the tournament, only being beaten by Australia in the round robin 8-4 and then again in the final losing 5-4. Jason said the final was full of excitement as they went into halftime leading 4-2 but Australia were too strong, scoring three unanswered touch downs in the second half.

Isaac Houlbrooke

Isaac was selected for the the New Zealand under 18 Lacrosse team. Here is Isaac competing for New Zealand at the ALA champs in Perth, which was held over Easter weekend.

Jada Taiaroa

Here is Jada at the Waka Ama secondary competition. Jada's team made it into champs for J16 250m and came 10th in that race.

Eruera Joseph Taingariu Kaio

Eruera attended the Tag World Cup held in Coffs Harbour, Australia. The New Zealand Under 16’s team ended up placing 3rd in the Under 16’s grade.

Ava Danholt

Here is Ava Danholt with her 1st place ribbon for 50m backstroke at the NZ Junior Makos Festival. Ava also came second in the 100M Backstroke and third in the 200m Backstroke.

Shanice Mcnabb

Shanice Mcnabb qualified for 5 races at the Division 2 swimming championships in Dunedin and after all her races she gained 1 PB in her 100 Individual Medley, 2 finals which she was placed 7th in the 15yr old girls 100m Freestyle and 6th in the 50m Freestyle.

Massimo Romano

Massimo Romano competed in the 3x3 Basketball tournament in Tauranga, 2019. The team came 14 out of 18 teams in their division. Massimo has also been selected in the Tasman regional squad.

Bae Fountain

Bae competed at the Trans Tasman water Polo competition for New Zealand School Boys Water Polo. The team were successful in retaining the Trans Tasman Secondary Schoolo Boys Shield once again following a 3-0 win against Australia. Bae was awarded the Most Valuable Player of the competition.

Jaryn Tainui

Jaryn attended the Bi-annual Trans Tasman Netball tournament between Australia and New Zealand in Adelaide in October 2018.

Hunter and Dyasia

Hunter and Dyasia are CrossFit Trailblazer athletes and competed at the 2Toa Aotearoa Crossfit competition in Rotorua.

Josh Bowie

Josh played at the NZF Futsal National Leauge in 2018 at Ara Institute in Christchurch.

Xavier Mexted

Xavier received best touch player at Whangarei Boys' High and was also selected for the wider training squad for the under 18s New Zealand AFL team that will travel to Melbourne.

Destinee Mexted

Destinee was nominated for best female touch player at the ASB Northland Sports Awards and most consistent player for Whangarei Girls High touch team.

Lina Pale

Lina was selected to represent the 2018 NZ Māori Secondary Schools Netball Team. The team travelled to the Gold Coast to participate in the International School Girls Tournament and played Fiji for the bronze medal.

Pene Smith

Pene competed at the National Gymnastics Championships in Tauranga in October 2018.

Emily Paterson

Emily represented New Zealand in the 2019 Oceanias Track Championships which was held in Adelaide Australia in Octoer. She placed silver in the Team Pursuit and 5th in the Individual Pursuit.

Janice Trevathan

Janice travelled to Tauranga for the NZ Masters Squash in September. She represented Central Squash and had 7 games in 5 days.

Tristan Taiaroa

Tristan was recently selected in the Otago 11th Blue Football team that travelled to Nelson to compete in the South Island Tournament. He is the number on Goal Keeper for his age. Their team made it to the quater finals.

Rulon Nutira

Rulon travelled to Sydney to play for the NZ Māori against the First Nation's Goanna's team in the NRL State of Mind, Festival of Indigenous Rugby League Carnival in February. The team went down o the Goanna's 16-22 in a strong game, with the game levelled at 10 all at half time. Rulon is pictured with his friend Maipele Morseu, a former NRL player who was playing for the Goanna Team.

Nikita Hiroki

Nikita represented the NZ Junior White Sox in the Canada Cup. The Junior White Sox came in the top 6 teams in the Canada Cup U19 Competition.

Bronson Harper

Bronson played for the Canterbury U9 rugby league team against the West Coast in August 2018. The team came out with 2 wins against the U10 side.

Kate Bennie

Kate won the Nawi Kira Shield at the Otago Swim Champs for 100m freestyle. Nawi was a NZ Champion Māori swimmer from Rotorua. In 1936, her family gifted this beautifully carbed Manaia shielf to what is now known as Swimming Otago. Kate also gained personal bests at the Champs and made the final of the 400m freestyle.

Nathaniel Cashall

Nathaniel travelled to Tahiti for the 2018 World Waka Ama Club Championships. He is pictured here holding a paddle with a friend from the Samoan Islands.

Joe Smythe

Joe attended the 2018 Trans Tasman Secondary Schools Squash Challenge in NSW, Australia. He own 6 out of 8 games in the round robin matches in very hot and challenging conditions. Their team won the Test match and Round Robin Tournament.

Skye Martinac

Skye attended the NZ Secondary School championships in Hamilton (end of 2017) and competed against 300 other students. He won the North Islands High Gun with a perfect score of 90 out of 90. He also won 9th in the Single Rise. Skye also recieved the code winner for clay target shooting at the Sport Nothland Secondary School Sports Awards.

Canterbury Rugby League Rep Under 12s against the West Coast (Aug 18), his team won both games and Bronson got Player of the Day on Day 2.

Brody Heydon

Brody Heydon travelled to Sydney to play softball for the Under 14 ISA New Zealand Team. With four wins and a draw they ended up top of the table to take out the whole tournament.
