Wife to Josiah (Ngāti Hateatea, Ngāi Te Ruahikihiki) and mother to Javier, Felicity Hernandez-Rika spoke with us about what Whai Rawa means to their whānau. “It’s not always easy to be disciplined, even when you have the best intentions. We now have an automatic payment set up to transfer $5 a week. We hope to teach our children financial responsibility, and as soon as they are old enough to understand about their Whai Rawa accounts, we are going to encourage them to contribute in addition to our contributions, from their pocket money and eventually their wages” she said. “We literally cannot wait for the day Javier is old enough to spend the money, that will be a proud moment.”
